I decided to read the second book in the Love Comes Softly series. As I said in a previous review, the first was a fast, easy, and an engaging read. For some reason , this time I have to disagree. I thought the book was good enough. It is about 200 pages and it covers a time period of years. Which bugged me a bit. In the beginning of the book the Davis' have another child and then end up taking in two more children after the death of their own mother. The girls are young, not quite teenagers yet, and starting school for the first time. But, by the end of the book they are both married off. For a series of books I just thought that the characters would maybe have been followed a developed more. Instead all of the stories felt rushed. I am still glad I read the book. I like how the author makes God a primary focus throughout the book. Seeing Marty the main character deal with raising two additional girls with her own made me think of what it would be like to blend children into my own family. The sadness that she feels with each child leaving the house is one I could connect with. I just wish there was a little more about each character. Marty's relationship with Clark is not really mentioned much in the book. I hoped that after all they had overcome in the first book it would still be mentioned more here. So, should you read this one? I would. If you like the continuing stories of characters, read it. I'm probably going to read the third in hopes that the series improves.
